Kara Joseph
Board Member and Secretary, FLEX High School Columbus School Board
Kara Joseph grew up in Stark County Ohio until she moved to Columbus in 1998 to work in the Ohio House of Representatives. Kara spent 14 years working as a senior legislative aide for three different legislators, including a legislator in Republican leadership. During her time in the Legislature, she assisted her legislators with ushering various pieces of legislation through the legislative process, eventually becoming state law.
In 2012, Kara left the Ohio Legislature for a division within the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS). The Administrator of the division was desperate for help, and thus Kara was hired. However, the position Kara took had never existed before and therefore had no specific job duties. As such, Kara took review of the agency to determine the most pressing needs, and created various processes that greatly improved the efficiency of the entire agency. In conjunction with a programmer assigned to assist her, she imagined a website, an internal documentation system, and a project management process.
At the same time Kara moved to LEADS in 2012, she found the opportunity to pursue her lifelong dream of obtaining her bachelor’s degree. After seven years, Kara graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Project Management, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Public Administration.
Kara enjoys spending her time with her husband Doug who she married in 1998, and their son Jim, who will graduate in May of 2025 from Cedarville University. The family also adores their 2 rescue beagles, Gipper and Molly (who are the real bosses of their home).
